Shibori Workshops with 'Okika Cloth

Get your hands in some indigo and discover the fascinating craft of indigo dyeing using contemporary
and traditional Japanese shibori techniques.

Workshop hosted by Meleina Hancock, designer of 'Okika Cloth

Meleina Hancock is a textile designer born and based in Hawaiʻi. Her island
roots constantly nourish and inspire her work and design style, as organic contours drawn from the natural world take shape in her loose, painterly hand. Meleina's creative energy drove her to San Francisco to study fashion at the Academy of Art University, where she acquired her BFA in textile design in 2010. Through nine years as a professional textile designer with brands like Levi’s and Tea Collection, she developed a serious side-interest in indigo dyeing. Leaving her day job, she ventured to Japan for intensive shibori study with a master dyer. Shortly after the experience, Meleina heard the luring call of home, and decided to return to Hawaiʻi to launch her own clothing line, ʻOkika Cloth, based in bold textile pattern and indigo shibori designs.
